If I had a hammer

Back in 1991, when I worked across the newsroom at WTZA-TV, I always heard Mary S. singing, “If I had a Hammer”. Sometimes I think I can still hear her singing it when she jogs past my house….Two years ago, I began singing that song to Alan, changing the lyrics to: “If I had a hammer, I hammer like Jimmy (my fix-all neighbor). Today, Alan plucked the strings of his guitar and began singing this tune. I recently learned that 116 versions have been created from this Peter, Paul and Mary song. PostScript: I also took another Peter Paul and Mary song, Puff the Magic Dragon, and created lyrics to account for Alan’s early talking and appearance on television, though I may not have gotten the melody just right….
