“I get by with a little help from my friends”

With a bowl full of cherries and lemonade served in wineglasses on my porch, I enjoyed a much needed girl-bonding visit from Dawn today while the boys were out. I’m grateful that she called. I’ve missed her company (and her humor) since leaving New Paltz. Later, we walked over to the Keirsted House, threw a blanket on the lawn and watched the community band play show tunes. Most of my neighbors were in attendance with their children. Reana (16 months old) sat on my lap for a long time, entertained mainly by my cell phone. Alan listened to the music for a while, but then wanted to run in the “cowflop”, which is the field behind the parking lot. We did that for a while and walked home with Ivan and his parents. Alan didn’t want to leave, so he was a bit of a handful. Luckily, I was in the company of friends who helped me out and understood. Again, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”

PostScript: One of my baby-boomer friends at New Paltz told me that the word “friends” in the John Lennon lyric was really a code for drugs. How disappointing….I’ll have to look up the lyrics again to let you know….
